Uniden's new scanner - SDS100 using SDR technology.

Firstly, there is no idea on whether, or if, Uniden Australia will bring this to Australia.
Knowing their record with not supporting the UBCD436-PT model, I highly doubt they will bring it here.

Do note, the spelling and anticipated pricing are American.
Also, notice the ** two asterisk below in the specifications, then at the bottom where it mentions "Paid Upgrade required".

Just for the record the UBCD436-PT is not Unidens to support. The radio is effectively owned by Pacific Telecoms in Melbourne. They commissioned the radio on behalf of the CFA. Uniden cannot unilaterally make changes to the radio without consultation with the aforementioned entities.

Unfortunately, have a look at the frequency coverage, specifically, those missing.

Clean unit though.
Wouldn't it be nice to have something like that, with no paid upgrades (all included stock), Aus band plan, available in Australia, as a reasonable price. Wishful, impossible thinking I know.

Yes, looks clean. Hopefully Uniden do bring this to Australia with a better frequency range.
Band plan should be easy to change as with most other current Uniden models.

Currency conversion would see this roughly $900AU without upgrades to import from the US.
Using the costings for BCD436HP upgrades, it could see this potentially to be over the $1200AU mark with all upgrades, so may be too prohibitive for cost to import to Australia from the US.

Maybe, just maybe, that Uniden Australia get on board and offer this new model locally with suitable frequency range AND with options to upgrade AND at a cheaper price.

It's a unique, totally unusual, and extremely frustrating thing to absorb, where a manufacture has their name on a product but provides no support for it.
The same situation for the Euro 3600XLT model where it's branded Uniden, but not supported by them.
All three models are branded Uniden (BCD436HP, BCD3600XLT, BCD436-PT), are identical on the outside apart from model numbers; however, only one of the three models are supported by Uniden, even though they are all branded Uniden products.

I can only hope that this new model (SDS100) is not as painful for support (and deaf in the 400MHz area) as the current 436/3600 stock manufactured by Uniden.

Wait until it is released in Europe, as the release of the BCD436HP over there (named the UBCD3600XLT, and identical to the Australian UBCD436-PT) has DMR and ProVoice included out of the box. Better than paying extra for it in the US version, or not getting it at all in the AU version.

The European version has the upgrades included in the price of the unit. Something to consider for the future if looking to upgrade, as it is definitely cheaper than getting one from the US.

You could always but a Whistler TRX-1. Does DMR out of the box plus NXDN.
Unfortunately whatever we want in AU we will have to import.

i think the gst for goods under 1000 dollars kicks in from july the 1st too so it mite be better to buy sooner then later if you are thinking about a scanner purchase from overseas

For those maybe considering the US Uniden SDS100, or waiting for the Australian or European equivalent, I've managed to beg, borrow and gather some reasonably popular radio and scanner handhelds together to compare the difference in sizing.

You have all seen the various pictures of the coloured screen, but not many compare the sizes.
