A COMMUNICATIONS repeater anchored 1.5 nautical miles off Kennett River is providing critical connections for emergency services tackling the Otways bushfire.

Rugged terrain with difficult radio black spots forced emergency chiefs to opt for placing a mobile off-road radio unit on boat Rachael Marree, providing improved reach into steep Kennett and Grey River valleys.
