ICOM IC440N problem

Post by Bluey1 »

G'day all,
Just joined and my intro details are on the new members thread, Name; Bluey.

Got to admit I joined this forum because Ive got a problem(doctor cant fix this one)

Just had a new ICOM IC440N fitted to the new Jeep. (No jokes on that one please!!)

Initial startup OK. (I didnt read the manual as most blokes dont). Transmit/receive OK. 8)
Went fiddling with the knobs.

Now cant receive. (Now read the manual) :(
Tried all the remedies except the system reset. (too scared to)

Cant work out what Ive done to mute the reception.

Any clues please. Thanks for any heads ups.

PS Had CB/UHF's for years so reasonably useful with them

Thanks all

No need to duplicate the posts

What channel you listening to?
Any activity on there?
Maybe squelch set to high?
Read the manual?

Yep, gotcha Phantom.
As I said, old mans syndrome, didnt read the manual first BUT have now.
Was working when first installed until I started fiddling.
Set the squelch to 4; mid range.
Channel/radio checked all channels, no reply
Transmit signal showed.
Used the Scan but locked onto nothing.

Something simple I stuffed up but cant work it out.
Again, read the manual and familiar with the settings but cant get reception.
Will drop it into the dealer tomorrow.
Thanks Phantom.

Turn/reduce the squelch down so you can hear hash... Open squelch
Then tighten up the squelch so the background hash disappears
Make sure, with squelch open (hash sound) that you are able to hear some transmissions, this wil verify the antenna and receiver are ok

I guess you have checked the antenna and fittings?

Can you try the antenna with another radio....maybe a portable?

OK, stand down people. Have got it under control now.

TSQL was the problem. Read the manual and knew it had to go but couldnt sequence it.
Rang ICOM and the expert told this Dumbkopff how to do it in 30 seconds. :?
Everything else is OK.

Know better next time.
Thanks for the suggestions all.

Yeh, highly doubtful that TSQL will be required for normal UHF CBRS communications

Was probably displayed on the screen - either when enabled or when the PTT is pressed?

Anyway, glad it all solved now :)
