Encapsulated vs Entrapped

Well as it states... What's the difference?

If your trapped you can't get out and require rescue equipment

In nz we only use traped and not trapped so what's that definitions of these

I think it might mean that your door or other part of the car is just Jammed so you caint get out I could be wrong.

entrapped - is when you are trapped by a piece of the vehicle, which is pressing on some part of your body.
normally means person needs QFRS to cut the vehicle apart to get them out.


encapsulated - is when you just cannot get out of the vehicle, door stuck ect..
normally means QFRS just needs to pop open a door to get them out.

Trapped means a lot more than just encapsulated and having the doors pulled open to let you out. It means having the roof cut off, the steering cut and what ever else is pinning you in the vehicle. Encapsulated could be released by anyone with minimal equipment. Trapped means specialist cutting and heavy lifting equipment. It makes a big difference to officers being called to an incident as they'll have some idea of what to expect..

Entrapped refers to being trapped with a compressive force from some part of a vehicle, heavy machinery etc. This is going to result in more severe injuries and resultant complications such as crush injury syndrome.

For the ambulance service, if they are trapped with compression they may require a higher level of medical intervention such as bringing a doctor to the scene to treat the possible crush injury, amputation etc.

A report of a patient trapped with compression would also indicate to the firies (rescue team) that it will be a more complicated and prolonged incident. Popping a door is relatively quick, gaining access to the patient then removing the compressive force is more complex. It also means that the ambos are going to be in the way, IV lines and monitoring equipment etc due to the severity of the injury.

If its an encapsulation, I stablise the patient then get out of the way so the firies can do their thing.
