Metropolitan & Rural Ambulance Services
Gday all,
I have a Uniden 396T Scanner and have a very keen interest in in the Metropolitan & Rural Ambulance Services of Victoria. I would like to hear from anyone who also has an interest in the same. I have many frequencies and some general knowledge, but is there someone who has been listening for a few years that I could work with to increase my knowledge. You can reply to this or PM me.
Thanks so much.

Re: Metropolitan & Rural Ambulance Services
Hi Air,
the MAS are currently using the Melbourne Metropolitan Radio Network as for the RAV i believe they are using the Telstra State Mobile Radio which the 396T does not follow without a computer

Re: Metropolitan & Rural Ambulance Services
Thank you for your enlightenment, but it doesn't change the fact that the Rural element of Ambulance Victoria is still using the VIC SMR, and the Metropolitan element is using the MMR.wombat tow wrote:there is no such group called rav or mas anymore it all comes under ambulance Victoria now they pooled all their resources into one organization now

Hi Wombat,
thankyou for that, yes they have merged and as Comint and i have stated they are on two different systems, although there are talkgroups on the MMR that allow you to talk with the SMR counterparts

Re: Metropolitan & Rural Ambulance Services
This the sort of info you were after? (Happy to be corrected here):
Metro is handled via ESTA centre at Tally Ho in Burwood.
Usually when working two up in a vehicle one officer has the pager the other has an XTS5000 portable with SELCALL, when dispatched by ESTA they are paged and SELCALL'd as well as the details going to the MDT in the vehicle. The officers acknowledge on air and all vehicle movements are done via MDT, enroute, onscene, loaded, clear etc.
MICA (Mobile Intensive Car Ambulance) and AGP (Ambulance General Purpose) units are two up, MICA Response and CSO (Clinical Support Officers) work one up. Most of the metro CSO's rotate through the the ESTA call centre and work as the onsite medical clincian (who makes medical related decisions regarding events). There are Team Managers (who manage a number of ambulance branches) and Group Managers who are above Team Managers who you may also hear on air. Some of these may or may not be MICA qualified. Team Managers/Group Managers will take the roll of a Health Commander at multi patient incidents (unless Paul Holman the Operations Manager is responded).
Each physical 'Branch' will have a number of cars running out of it i.e. for example Hoppers Crossing and Werribee both run out of the Werribee branch (there is no Hoppers Crossing branch). Some ambulances respond from Metropolitan Fire Brigade stations (co-located). WX1 is the AV mobile command unit (office on wheels with radios - sent to large incidents/events i.e. Grand Prix. There are also two multi patient emergency support vehicles (ESV1 and ESV2) that carry cache's of medical equipment.
Check out the Ambulance Victoria magazine:

And the ambulance Branch map:

Re: Metropolitan & Rural Ambulance Services
Arch,
actually that has changed aswell both Metro and Regional AV are now being controlled by ESTA as for the selcal the xts5000 does not support selcal but more MDC Paging in Analogue and p25 paging. the Regional portion being handed to ESTA happened not that long ago with changes being made to vehicle numbering.

Close , but still not quiet right Mas or the metro component is in esta , for those that have not seen it , pretty much the same room as the cfa's Vicfire although they could have moved there was a roumor of his happening , the regional component or av is done at mt st Helen's near ballarat in a communications center called ballsec no jokes thanks lol , this is the same center that all regional Vic police communications are moving to , to hear the Mas or metro you will need a digital scanner as for the av it is smr but they only use one freq most of the time I can hear most of regional Vic Comms from my qth on one freq ,

As of this week it appears ESTA have taken over dispatching of the AV Rural Clinic/NEPT fleet.
Those members on here that are using TrunkView keep an eye on the new id's appearing in the 43** and 40** blocks (as well as renumbering of existing vehicles).
EAS is now showing mnemonics and the fleet number for NEPT. The fleet numbers are now prefixed with a 5.

It is my understanding that the Ballarat State Emergency Communications Centre (BALLSEC) is also operated by the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA).melbourneradio wrote:Close , but still not quiet right Mas or the metro component is in esta , . . .
