FIRS / FLRE Radio Channels

Post by Blake »

Hey all,

Going through the channel plan, came across a couple of listings for "FIRS".
Any ideas what these are/what it stands for?

I also noticed that they correspond to radios in my RiD list.

I'm taking a wild stab in the dark and say they have something to do with fire lookout towers??? :?

So:

What does FIRS stand for?
What is FIRS?
What are the FIRS radio channels used for?

Cheers blokes.

They're FLRE on the channel plan, and FIRS on the RiD list. (Two seperate things)
4x FLRE Channels: 996, 997, 998 & 999.

So, lets try again shall we:

FIRS is a call centre I think. From memory, it's like the thing in NSW where RFS brigades call in the post-incident reports of every incident after they get back. Kinda like a human based CAD I guess?

No idea on FLRE, but the frequencies it's on are registered to DELWP, so probably something foresty.

Well, after an extensive online search as to what FIRS stood for yesterday, I still had no answer.
It's amazing what your mind will do when you stop thinking about stuff.
With that guidance from BJ (thanks),
I woke up this worning, and thought...
FIRS, hmmm.
Could be Fire Incident Reporting System.

And sure enough (even though it didn't come up when FIRS was searched for),
when I searched for 'Fire Incident Reporting System', this was like the second link:
http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about/fire-reports-request/

So, it turns out that yes, FIRS is 'Fire Incident Reporting System'.

Cheers for the help BJ.

NOW, what are the FLRE radio channels????
Anyone?

I've wondered what FLRE stood for myself. It may stand for something like 'Forest, Land, Resources and Environment'.
It may have been a proposed name for what is now DELWP/Forest Fire Management Victoria or Parks Victoria....
