Daylesford CFA

Post by LatteTown »

I've setup a scanner (analogue at this stage, will upgrade to a discriminator output mod and P25 decoding on Mac next year) for this fire season, and although I've not spent hours Googling, I can't seem to find a site that lists frequencies against areas or explains what areas are covered by each CFA region.

Any pointers to the best sites etc?

Many thanks!

I can see from this that the closest is Mt Franklin in the Grampians region.

I am however within 6 blocks of the Daylesford CFA station and can hear nothing on the Mt Franklin frequencies, should Daylesford have its own frequency or should I expect any local radio traffic when there are no incidents etc?

After post the above, I found:

http://web.acma.gov.au/pls/radcom/site_ ... E_ID=46141

Should this be all that I need?

The frequencies off the tower are digital p25. Are you using a digital scanner and listening to the talk group id's? (Thatll be the dispatch channel for that district)

Fireground channels do not go through the tower. (Simplex)

Okay, I'm not not going to be ready for P25 this season, Fireground will have to be enough for now...

Thank you!

Also. They have started changing to digital fire ground channels. Not sure if all districts will be changed by this fire season

Someone correct me if im wrong but i think they may have turned the analog relay off for D2 as i dont hear it anymore from my region however i know the d12 analog relay is still going however i get D2 Digital perfectly of pretty sally so maybe they have gone full digital? as with the FG i know we were meant to be using Digital Chs but many brigades have gone back to the analog go to ch's due to problems with the range of P25 Simplex i know all the IMC ch's used by the cfa and DELWP are analouge and very active around your area. you could try 163.0625mhz thats the IMC ive been listening to for your area best way to find out is do a chain search from 160 to 164mhz

Is there a list of FG and IMC regions and frequencies?

The ACMA appears to be vague at best.

What is the current status and acceptance of P25? Blind Freddy could have told government that P25 may not work as well as analogue in the field, being hilly rural areas etc, but that's 'government' for you, LOL.

EDIT: Okay, I just found http://www.aussiescanners.com.au/forum/ ... 231&t=2357
Is this maintained and regularly updated?

Check out the Vicradio Zone website. That may help with what you are looking for.

Listen to UHF 14 or icc channels that are analog when something big happens they wont be using digital ive included a list in this post of all cfa channels hope it helps also scan through all your local smr frequency's to hear fire towers and weather updates from delp or whatever they call them selves

And yes D2 dispatch analog relay was switched of a long long time ago the only analog dispatch channels are 14, 13, 7, 8

So there's a lot to this, if you want to hear what's happening locally:

1. UHF analogue channels at 400Mhz
2. Local SMR channels? The trunked SMR network ,requiring specialised kit to track conversations?
3. Simplex analogue and P25 on several channels between 160.9875 MHz and 165.1625 MHz?

I think I will start with 3., scanning 160-165 Mhz for analogue and P25 traffic. Or perhaps I will only scan:
CFA Frequencies & Districts
Region 15, Midlands, Ballarat
Ch 67 161.0250
Ch 68 161.1625
Ch 69 161.2000

And for SMR:
164.0875MHz to 164.9625MHz
http://cqdx11.com/WINRADIO/FREQUENCIES/ ... encies.htm

Will using this SMR frequency range, with a non-tracking scanner, allow both sides of a conversation to be heard?

The lists shown via the cqdx link are fairly outdated especially the bit for the Ambulance fleet maintenance company (JMJ havent been around for a fair while). As for the SMR stuff there are quite a few freeware trunk tracking programs out on the net that do just as good a job (IMO) without the need to fork out alot of money.
