Re: Digital or analog
Coonabarabran (channel Yankee) is currently VHF analog at the moment, but will be switched over to digital sometime in the future not sure of the timeline though.

Re: Digital or analog
The UHF digital network is currently being installed. Once the digital is commissioned, there is normally at least 6-12 months period in digital clear mode to debug any issues/black spots etc. Once the whole of the Yankee channel is ready, digital encryption will be switched on a set date - at a guess some time in 2018

Re: Digital or analog
Zulu, Yankee and Quebec proposed digital frequencies have been posted on acma some months ago. I have no idea as to the timetable but i figure you will be fortunate to get past 2018. Encryption of the whole state is their official policy.

Not sure about zulu. But heard from a tamworth wns tech late last year that digital will start to be rolled out on channel Q within the next 2 years. I would say 2018 will be the year when it all starts happening.

Re: Digital or analog
Apparently the delay related to who would own and run the "new" network. NSWPF wanted to keep control, but NSW government wanted the Telecommunications Authority to look after it. Judging from the new licenses, it appears the Telco Authority got their way!

Re: Digital or analog
Hmm not sure about that. All the digital frequencies that are currently being used and have been allocated to channels Q,Y AND Z are licenced to nsw police. And as far as im aware only specialist commands like TOU, state crime and a few others are using the the GRN.

All frequencies maybe licenced to the NSW Police but have to be approved by the Telco Authority. If the TA don't like it tough luck.Ross85 wrote:Hmm not sure about that. Can confirm that none of the digital listed freqs at Mt Canobolas are active yet. Will check back in a few months and see if they're starting to test them yet

Re: Digital or analog
The ACMA database shows the recent allocations (2016 and onwards) in northwest NSW are licensed to Telco Authority, with the agency name appearing in the site notes. No one seems to have any recent allocations licensed directly to the agency.Ross85 wrote:Hmm not sure about that. Yes, but have a look at the authorisation date. They are all 2015 or earlier.

The same happened on the North Coast .... sat dormant on the acma for a couple of years before coming to life in early 2014 ... encrypted by the end of 2015
