coffs harbour police frequency

Post by blacktown »

These are the active Coffs Harbour area frequencies, all digital P25 on Channel Oscar. You may hear distant analogue transmissions but these are gradually being switched off as digital continues to be rolled out. 469.3250 can be heard as far south as Port Macquarie

467.8750 - Tx The Bluff Glenreagh - ACTIVE P25
468.2000 - Tx Boambee, Coffs Harbour - ACTIVE P25
468.4500 - Tx Woolgoogla, Halfway Creek- ACTIVE P25
468.9250 - Tx Sapphire, Mt Wondurrigah - ACTIVE P25
469.3250 - Tx Mt Coramba - ACTIVE P25

COFFS VOTE = Common Input

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately you will need a P25 scanner. If the transmission is encrypted, no scanner will work. The 340 is no good if you want to listen to digital transmissions.
P25 scanner would be 396 or 996 scanner. Look thru the site and you will quickly see what scanner people are using and having success with.

Be aware that there is a definite push by NSWPF towards regional encryption (Zone 4)
Converting from analogue (Zone 1) to digital clear mode (Zone 3) is stage 1 in a two stage process
Stage 2 is encryption for that regional/channel (Zone 4)
NSWPF have already shown their hand at the end of 2014 ie Whiskey (Southern Highlands-Goulburn-Wagga) is now encrypted
You have probably got 6-12mths (maybe more) before they flick the switch but it is coming

To quote from their handbook (publically available on the internet)

"The Communications Group is progressively introducing encryption across the entire NSWPF radio communications network. Encryption prevents unauthorised persons from listening on radio conversations"

PS Zone 2 = Greater Sydney Region (encrypted since May 2008)

I am currently in Port Macquarie this weekend
It looks like the radio techs have "finished" the digital sites on Channel Oscar
Channel Oscar covers from just south of Port Macquarie to just north of Grafton
I am now seeing Grafton area radio ids appearing on the local Port Macquarie sites
That tells me, combined with the comments above, that the analog to digital conversion was probably completed a week or so ago.

If you are talking about the topic location - once they flick that switch (encryption) cannot listen it anymore.

You can listen for the short term ... its P25 digital but in clear mode (ie not encrypted)

At some point in the medium term future on a predetermined date the radio techs will enable encryption for your region, meaning that all radios will be asked to switch from Zone 3 (Digital Clear) to Zone 4 (Digital Encryption)
Depending on your digital scanner settings it will either mute the encryption or you will hear squiggly noises.
Either way that will be the end of listening to them
That is all we hear in Sydney where it has been encrypted for the last 7 years

In the interim the focus of the radio techs will be on ensuing that all radio assets (repeaters, vehicle mobile radios, portables, station radios etc) are ready for that switch

There would be plenty of other things to listen to on your scanner both in/around your local area.
Just press the scan button and see what pops up...

Its not all gloom and doom. If i was living in the area I would probably buy a digital scanner on the basis that i am aware the other emergency services are P25 already or are planning to migrate to UHF P25 (Rural Fire Service, Ambulance etc) plus there is the added bonus that Coffs Harbour Council is already using their own VHF P25 network. Only the police have made a committment to encrypt.

I have found that between just pressing the scan button and utilising the ACMA database/googling, you can find enough information to stimulate your interest to listen to other folk apart from law enforcement. Hint: Do a postcode search for your area

http://web.acma.gov.au/pls/radcom/regis ... dispatcher

On the Grafton digital vote I heard one transmission yesterday which suggest that one or two sites north of Grafton are still to be completed /switched over (showing up as a patch) but more or less the conversion is pretty well complete
