Police Radio Channels lost

Hi Guys & Girls I am new to this forum but not new to scanning, But I have encountered a problem over the last few weeks that I can not solve. I spent 19 years in NSWFB & VRA so I have always had access to the right info and equipment. However now I am retired I do not have access to that info, so here is my question. I live in Macksville on the mid north coast and over the last couple of weeks I have been unable to here the police all other frequencies are good and if I travel north when I get to Urunga I can here them again not sure if I go south I have not been that way for a while, so have the frequencies changed and if so to what? I have free scanned all the obvious VHF & UHF channels with no luck. Please Help it is driving me nuts.

I don't know about NSW, but the state is becoming digital, as is just about everywhere else. That could be the answer.

The answer is that police are progressively switching to P25 digital. I have compiled a list of frequencies for OSCAR and PAPA from the acma database for the purpose of logging what is currently digital and what is analogue. There are most likely some mistakes ... ie may have a missed a few analog sites. P25 is still in digital clear mode, though i suspect encryption will eventually be rolled out in the medium to long term. Greater Sydney has been encrypted since 2008. In the interim period however long that lasts you will need a digital capable scanner eg uniden396 to monitor them. The remaining analog sites are being slowly retired

I am frequently in the Port Macquarie region so i able to cover the far south but I would appreciate assistance from those folk living along the north coast or transiting the region (eg professional drivers/retired folk/on holidays) what is happening in their neck of the woods. From past experience a number of analog sites have become P25 on the same frequency plus some unlisted frequencies have been seen from time to time eg 468.0375 and 468.3375 that are not listed anywhere on the north coast.

I posted this on our local Sydney scaning site about 6 weeks ago and was able to get valuable feedback from a Coffs Harbour listener. Many thanks Alison for your contribution. I am expecting further rollout of digital and analog sites to continue to disappear, so your feedback from those either side of the border will be appreciated

i would personally use the Mt Yarrahapinni repeater as it will service the area reasonably well if in doubt give the second site a crack,

Thanks guys. Still a little confused i am old school i have been using a very basic system ie. GME TX 3500 In my work ute a tait t700 ex police car radio from way back in my work shop and a radio shack scanner at home. I have tried these frequencies in the scanner as well as the GME with no results so does this mean i will have to upgrade? And if so what is the best for a portable system for the car. I will sit down when i get a chance and post all my other frequencies for this area. THANKS AGAIN
