Fire frequencies

Hello there, I have been listening to the Dalby fire frequency (466.95000) and Toowoomba (466.15000). I have noticed it is very hard to understand both of them because the transmission sounds really muffled. I have searched on google and cannot find any info about this problem. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the squelch or ctcss/dcs.

Not sure if the GWN P25 network is being used out there or not.

If it is it is then being linked back in to the old analogue network.

Hence the difference would be P25 transmissions on a analogue which does sound different.

Yeah the original Toowoomba frequency (466.6000) has been moved to the GWN a while ago, so maybe it is being linked to (466.1500). The Dalby frequency is still analogue as far as I'm aware.

As has been stated previously, the GWN only goes as far west as Jondaryan.
466.950 is on Mt Kiangarow (the Bunya Mountains), which is definitely outside the GWN coverage area.

Sub-audible tones (CTCSS/DCS/NAC etc) has absolutely no effect on audio quality. If anything it would be a landline, link or bearer or similar.

Agreed, it is the link from the GWN stuff to the old analogue that is the most likely problem, (I say most likely as with radio, anything can happen). When the QFES went digital on the Sunshine Coast, they still have to link through the old analogue system to communicate with stations in their area, but outside the GWN, and it sounded like someone talking in a tank. It seems to be fixed now.

From what I can hear, there is a noticeable difference listening to QAS from outside toowoomba on analogue, and hearing it patched through in GWN units. GWN sounds more... tinny-robotic sort of. Difficult to explain. Haven't listened to firecom in a while but could probably have a look. Can get a recording if someone is interested in hearing the difference? easy way to find out if its just my mind playing tricks or not lol
