Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
Gold Coast City Council Life-Guards (365 day service)
163.625mhz
Surf Life Saving beach patrols (weekends & public holidays)
Ch 01 - 484.950mhz, simplex channel, for local beach operations, chopper to crew etc
Ch 02 - 485.000mhz, simplex channel, for local beach operations, chopper to crew etc
Ch 03 - 483.800mhz, simplex channel, training
Ch 04 - 488.775mhz, repeater channel, on top of the Q1 tower
Ch 05 - 487.950mhz, repeater channel, Razorback Hill Tweed Heads
Ch 06 - 488.650mhz, repeater channel, on top of Q1 tower, backup channel used for major incidents
Ch 07 - 487.625mhz, repeater channel, Springbrook
Channels 4, 5 and 7 are linked to provide coast-wide coverage for all beaches, jet skis, jet boats and helicopters. Channel 6 is used for major incidents to free up channels 4, 5 and 7.
"Gold Coast SurfCom" has the ability to "patch" VHF Marine channels, the GCCC Life-Guard VHF channel and the Surf Life Saving UHF channels together if required. For instance, we had a light plane crash off the beach last year. The Water Police had no way to talk to the Surf Rescue crews as they only had VHF Marine or Police radios. SurfCom were able to "patch" channel 73 VHF Marine into channel 1 UHF (SLS) so the Police could talk to the lifesavers. This is done via a Zetron console and a touch screen radio system.

Re: Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
No wukkas!
Went for a drive up to Caboolture on the weekend and I was still picking up Gold Coast Surfcom right up to the Gateway Motorway exit from my car radio on channel 4 (Q1 Tower, Surfers Paradise)! I put in a radio check and they were surprised to hear me from where I was.
I'll post the Sunshine Coast channels when I find them. I know you can pick up channel 10 from the Redcliffe/Caboolture area, but can't remember the frequency.

Re: Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
Im guessing you dont know what a radio check is ? When using UHF CB it is common for users to ask other users for a "Radio Check" This refers to asking others how good their signal is, any static, how they are coming across etc.Stretch wrote:You put in a radio check???

Re: Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
No I know what a radio check is.
I interpreted it as he put a radio check out on GC Surfcom channels and I was intrigued by that.
What channel did he put it out on???

Yep, I asked for a radio check on channel 4 (Q1 Tower). I'm a Patrol Captain with Gold Coast Surfcom, and a clubbie at Coolangatta SLSC, thus I have a "Motorola GP339" portable and a Motorola "GM950 Plus" in my car fitted with SLSA channels.

Re: Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
Hi Geoff,
so the car radio would have put out ?25 watts of power?? or just 4 watts like a hand held.
if you fly into Brisbane airport and look to the Gold Coast you can acctually see the Q1, so it in reallity not that far away and with nil obstructions.
Cheers
Paul.

Re: Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
OK, just upgraded the repeater at Cudgen Water Tower (Kingscliff NSW). You can now hear "Surfcom Far North Coast" which operates out of Ballina NSW on 471.200 (Ch 40) on the southern end of the Gold Coast (Burleigh south). This covers Surf Life Saving from Tweed Heads south to Yamba NSW.

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the freq. I'll place it in the scanner and see what goes in from home.
Cheers
Paul.

Re: Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
GCCC VHF System is very much listenable you have several departments that you can listen to, SLSQ is the one you cant listen to without a computer or an NXDN capable radioRadio_Australia wrote:Thanks for the update , GCCC main lifeguard VHF freq is Not able to be listened to on a conventional scanner anymore .

Using a 996 and 396
Maybe I have the wrong VHF freq ?

Re: Gold Coast Surf Rescue frequencies
if you have a discriminator tap you could run DSDPlus and you will know if it is NXDN or DMR aswell as be able to listen to them, i will have to go for a drive and have a listenRadio_Australia wrote:163.62500 GCCC Lifeguard freq listening today and all I can hear is NXDN/DMR related noise.
