The VHF frequencies at :::9 are engineering channels... these are used in Brisbane and the Gold Coast for the live link operators (and the chopper) to talk to master control to coordinate the 2 GHZ link run ups ready for live crosses.

The 464 MHz freq is one of the IFB (interruptible fold back) channels which is the director / floor manager, this allow the talent to hear the studio (newsreaders etc) talking to them.

interesting as iv only ever heard them making calls to station nothing like what it used to be, i am still lead to believe they are operating off the Motorola Zeon Digital network, they came off that for there PSTN for an unknown reason. hoping they will move to something listenable again one day

The reason why you don't hear a great deal is, its all done via an iPad app now in the chopper, they record each clients traffic report and it send the audio file to the station so it can be dropped straight into their digital system.

So.... How are they doing those reports where there are conversations at the end of the the broadcast or get interrupted mid-broadcast?
Only near that in radio the other morning... When a broadcaster asked if there was any improvement in a prang as it was going to affect his day .... A little banter betwee to them

There's pre recorded reports for certain clients, usually the smaller radio stations and then the bigger ones have their own traffic reporter such as 2GB which have a ATN radio inside with them at the TMC.

This is true.... but the QLD operation does operate a little differently, for example smaller markets like Toowoomba, etc ATN does a generic traffic update which is then FTP'd to the stations on air playout system (Nexgen etc) where the larger markets like Brisbane / Gold Coast have ATN call them so the on air guys can interact with traffic guys, if the traffic reporter is in the chopper, in QLD this is done on Vertels MPT trunked system usually as a PSTN call or in one or two stations case direct to a radio at the station, if you listen closely you can hear the good old trunking data burst when they de key.

They also use MPT to talk between themselves as well.

The ATN helicopter has QTQ9's VHF frequency to talk to QTQ master control to liaise firing up the 2.0 GHz link for live reports... all link operations at Nine are co-orniated on the engineering VHF Hi band channels, 1 in Brisbane and 1 on the Gold Coast, this way the traffic chopper, Nine's chopper and all the live eye trucks know what is going on and who is doing what... when there is something BIG on... they have links going everywhere.
