2nd Hand Satellite Modem Help

So, long story short.
On holidays recently.
Visited a local tip shop one day.
Spotted two pelican cases, with gear hanging off them and filled with gear.
A bit of haggling later, and I got two genuine pelican cases filled with stuff for $20.
Nice.

Upon getting back to the hotel (and wifi), I had a bit of a google.
Turns out they're fitted with sat modems.
It looks like VHF antenna, GPS positioning, etc, for asset management, by my reckoning, on a boat.

Anyway, pics below.

They're Stellar Delphi DS300s, utilising the ORBCOMM network of satellites.

Question is, what the hell do I do with them???
Do I sell them?
Do I re-purpose them?
If I repurpose them, what on earth for?
Do I gut them for components?
Can I even use them?
Can I use them legally?
Wouldn't they still have a license attached to the serials?
Should I contact ORBCOMM/Delphi?

I've already gutted one for the case (which was why I got them), however, I still have one completely intact.
So yeah, any ideas?

Put it this way, to me, the cases (what I bought them for) and all the attached hardware is worth more than 20 bucks to me, so yeah, i'm pretty happy no matter if they turn out to be junk.

Either people are looking and have no idea (which is fine),
or, people have a bit of an idea and aren't saying for some reason?

I would hope it was the former.
But you never know.

So, does anyone know of anything I can do with second hand satellite AIS transponders?
Google has failed me, I was hoping there might be someone here that could shed some light.
If there isn't, then I apologise for that rant.

thanks for at least replying.

Even if people reply with "I have no idea" that's good,
it gives me an idea that there are not many if any avenues of exploration,
hence I can gut the case, and chuck the transponders, and get on with it.

Although the the small black box jury rigged to the antenna base looks to be a GPS antenna.

and yeah, there is a company website.
And yes, I believe that little black box is the GPS antenna.
It plugged into the port labelled 'GPS', and it looks like other GPS antennas, so, I'd say, it's a sure bet. :

It will obviously depend on exactly who you want to listen to. Most transit companies are on trunked DMR networks, so Tier 3. Plus you may find some in the VHF bands. DMR scanners are expensive but will do what you seem to want to do.
