I haven't used it much but from what I have I reckon it's brilliant. Don't really use the extra RX channels in it coz I always have the scanner going next to it but I'm looking at getting it installed in the car once I buy a bigger battery for the car :)

You buy the remote mic??

The UH500SX is a pretty good radio. Fairly feature packed and it served me well for the week or so that I had one.
The nice big screen is great.

How do you find that IC-706MkIIG?

I'm tossing up options for a HF/VHF/UHF Amateur Rig and this one looks pretty good.

The 706 is a great rig - however Icom have just recently stopped making them. You will still find some stores with them in stock - but once their gone ....

The 7000 is the next in line - but fairly expensive little rig.

You will be able to find a few 706's still out there - but they are fairly good and most people tend to hang on to them.

Have a look at vkham.com and look under the second hand section for some nice rigs.

I like having an all in one rig - one power supply, two aerials - heaps of contacts. It suits my needs and i will be hanging on to it for quite some time.

Tis a bit short on power on the 70cm side, and would be nice for a little more power on the 2m side - however for your foundation - will be more than what you need....
