I have now used the supplied bracket to secure my UBCT9. In this photo I have the Sangean ATS 909 which is a world band radio with SSB capability. Next to it is an MFJ-1020A Active Antenna Unit which is powered by a 9v battery.
All of these can be connected to my house antenna via the wall socket. The results are certainly superior to any indoor wire or rod. It does not affect the plasma TV in the lounge either, so the bride is happy.
The UBCT9 is the most frequently used unit with it connected directly to the TV wall socket. I can hear SEQLD QFRS, QAS, SES, QPS from Caboolture and Southport. Airband coverage is great as well. The only downside of the UBCT9 is it doesn't have an alpha numeric programming feature. I'll keep buying quick picks
Many years ago I used to plug into the old TV socket, that was when we use the VHF TV antenna's.
A antenna is a receiver of signals, Airman, could be on a hill or in a very good area to receive those frequencies.
He did not say if the TV antenna was a UHF or VHF one. Also what direction is the antenna pointing?
You can always take your scanner with a rubber ducky antenna onto the roof and you will more likley find that you will receive those very signals quite well.
Fairly good chance - being out highfields .... he has both UHF/VHF thru diplexer. depending on his location at Highfields - if i was a betting man - one pointing towards brisbane and the other towards toowoomba (or the bunya's)

Where Airman lives towards the bunya's I would be pretty sure.

I bought a length of TV indoor connection cable. The sort that runs from the wall socket to the TV. Available in different lengths from DSE.
I cut off the connector that fits into the back of the TV and replaced it with a BNC connector. This requires baring the outer shield and braid and then do the solder job on the core. Test the line to see if it is not shorting using a multimeter.
Similar results can be achieved with a length of RG58 and buying a TV male connector and a BNC connector for each end of the cable. Do the soldering and test.
