Airspy, SDR Sharp & PDW

Post by Blitz »

Hey guys, I have been playing around with an Airspy Mini, SDR Sharp and PDW but i'm not having much luck. - I am a noob to this kind of stuff, so it may be due to a lack of understanding.

I have searched the forum but still need a little guidance.

Setup:

Windows 10 Laptop
SDR Sharp
PDW v3.2b01
VB Audi Cable
Airspy Mini.

This is currently what i seem to be getting:

I am trying to decode the messages from the QAS/QFRS on 148.6375 & 148.5625

If anyone could provide me with some assistance or point me in the right direction.

Hi Blitz,

Looks to me as if your decoding rate is down a bit. This can be caused by a number of things such as a weak signal, a directional antenna facing the wrong way or even a slow computer I have found. There are also numerous settings in SDR# that require a lot of tweaking to get the perfect signal. I have my gain up at around 50dB and my RF gain at about 48dB, but this could be different depending on the area you are in. I also have a few issues with frequency 'drift', due to my cheap dongles with poor oscillator circuits. This can be corrected using the 'Frequency correct' or ppm (something along those lines), which is found in the settings cog in the top left, along with the sample rate and RF correction controls. There are way more people on this site that will be of much more help to you, but this is just my understanding and what I have found over the years. Hope you get it going soon!

Where I am there is a heap of tone only messages. There is a setting in pdw to reject those - I found that tick box to be very helpful.
Your not getting gibberish so your probably very close to getting it right.
