Hi all
Just wonding a few things

- what is the best freq to listen to sarina police from listening in mackay on.
- does any one known what the callsign aphla means in mackay
- how many people work in mackay communcations centre

And finally on an off chance does anyone know any QAS freqs for mackay and sarina.

The Alpha callsign usually means "Alone", as in a Single crewmember, rather than the usual two crewmembers in a car.Bennjarr wrote: - does any one known what the callsign aphla means in mackay

If it is going to happen, then probably on 1 July, when the Restructuring is supposed to take place. However, as Mackay will still remain a District in its own right, and a larger one at that, I suspect it will keep its Communications Centre.Bennjarr wrote:

The following document makes for some interesting reading, although it still doesn't cover everthing.

Alpha has never had that meaning in QLDComint wrote:The Alpha callsign usually means "Alone", as in a Single crewmember, rather than the usual two crewmembers in a car.Bennjarr wrote: - does any one known what the callsign aphla means in mackay

Sarina is 468.0000
Hay Point is 468.0125
Ooralea is 467.8875
Mt Pleasent is 468.2500
Mackey CBD is 468.2125
Mt Bassett is 468.7500
I'd be surprised if Mackay Comms centre had more then 3 people on a Friday Saturday night

I've heard it a number of times, Ipswich still uses that terminology a bitrapps_101 wrote:Alpha has never had that meaning in QLDComint wrote:The Alpha callsign usually means "Alone", as in a Single crewmember, rather than the usual two crewmembers in a car.Bennjarr wrote: - does any one known what the callsign aphla means in mackay

"VKR just be aware I'm an alpha today" or "400 to 400 Alpha" If someone in their car is calling their partner who is on foot

Interesting. Alphas official meaning is 'Admin' and given to call signs that are applicable statewide
Admittedly, Ipswichs' call signs aren't really in line with the majority of the state. They are definitely an anomaly

I've often heard State Traffic units use it in that manner, as well.mstrkrft wrote:"VKR just be aware I'm an alpha today"

Yes, I too have heard State Traffic units using the Alpha prefix, and yes, different regions and even Districts within them do have their own little foibles, but they seem to be a lot less than they used to be. They started to be more uniform sometime back. From Gympie, the Village of the Damned, we get just all of the current Gympie District out to Kingaroy, the bottom part of Maryborough and all of the Sunshine Coast and I used to hear shift supervisors really giving some good serves. If I had received some of them, I would have given my partner my badge, gun and other equipment and run away!

Re: Mackay Police and VKR Q's
On the original subject of Sarina frequencies, I have a cousin there who drives a scanner. He tells me that they do tend to HAVE to use the phone there a lot because their radio coverage isn't great. I noticed it too when I visited last. It will be interesting to see what happens with a restructure. Back in the Village of the Damned, they had difficulty communicating from just past the show grounds back to town. As I said before, if they can't get analogue to work, I just can't wait to see digital in action, or rather out of it.

Its because State Traffic is state wide that they have the BA (alpha) prefixComint wrote:I've often heard State Traffic units use it in that manner, as well.mstrkrft wrote:"VKR just be aware I'm an alpha today"

In much the same way dog squad is Tango. They are always one up, but T denotes the specialist nature of the crew. Same with water police and rail squad.

Given that the sites will be shared by all agencies I'd (at least like to) think that coverage would improve as there would be more usable sites...

It could also be RDTU (BA920) or FCU (BA910 ish)
RDTU is rarely one up
