Hey guys,

There has been much discussion in here about the 467 to 469 MHz frequencies but QPS also have a swag of frequencies in the 404. 413-414, 450-451 and 460-461 MHz ranges. On the ACMA database these are shown as "point to point" or "point to multipoint".

Are these data frequencies or "talk-around" i.e. local frequencies which are used for the big jobs and can only be heard if you are in the area. I presume they have these frequencies as once they are dispatched to the big jobs there is virtually no radio traffic on the main frequencies and this was very obvious during the Woodridge incidents last week.

The point to point is to link the repeaters together. If you we're able to listen you would hear the same stuff as you you on the repeater, as for the Woodridge incident most of the time they use the main channel or even the inquiries channels

Point-to-Point are lower power (1 Watt or less) directional Links that connect different Repeaters together, and to the Communications Centre.

For example:-

You might have one, or more, Links from a Communications Centre (Comms Centre) to a nearby mountain.
One Link would feed the Repeater serving the Local area, and may even feed Point-to-Multipoint links to Police Stations in the immediate area, like the Brisbane Metropolitan Area.

A second Link may feed on to other mountains, or high structiures, containing repeaters covering the area North, or East, of the Commns Centre. A third Link may feed Repeaters covering the area to the South, or West, of the Comms Centre, and a fourth Link may even provide connection to a Comms Centre in an adjacent Region.

A Point-to-Multipoint may also provide Links from an Incident Command Vehicle back into the rest of the Network, without having to worry about changing direction of antennas for every different incident.

FWIW the 'main' linking sites for the south east corner are at Mt Cotton, Beenleigh police station, North Tamborine, Springbrook, Palm beach police station, and Broadbeach police station

I daresay for the Woodridge job that whatever channel they used (likely 78 or 128) would have been removed from the voting group through the ACOM console.
