Strange New Cairns Callsigns

Post by SteveNSWP »

Has anyone else been listening to Cairns VKR and noticed some weird new callsigns like FM and FC and RF? Does anyone know what the go is?

First letter is the region (F would be far northern?), and I think second is the district (M is Mareeba?) RF is Road policing unit (traffic), followed by the region (far northern again).
Also believe the last digit with general duties (400 number) call signs indicates what time the shift started (eg 406 is 6am start). I guess this would only apply to stations with more than one crew per shift. Smaller stations with one car would probably retain their own callsign.
Wish we could still listen down here in SE QLD. :?

Funny you mention this as I just updated my local area post that in the past week in the Bundaberg area I've been hearing weird new alpha numeric callsigns, also been hearing strange alpha numeric "reply codes" upon confirmation of accepting the job.

Also now getting these in SWQ - Have had Romeo Zulu (I'm lead to believe this is brisbane RDTU). On my drive to work this morning I heard a lot of Whisky Delta (Western districts?) coming from Stanthope, and surrounds.

Yep can confirm completely different. So far have heard the Whisky Delta, appears to be warwick to gundy reigon. Delta Whisky I've heard but haven't been able to map it to a location (I'm thinking Dalby region) and Whisky Romeo, appears to be west of miles

I think you may have Whiskey Delta and Delta Whiskey back-to-front.

When they did that re-org a few years back, they amalgamated Warwick and Toowomba into Darling Downs District, and Dalby, Roma, and Charleville into South West District.

So I am thinking that Delta Whiskey (Darling Downs - Warwick) is the old Whiskey Kilo area, and Whiskey Delta (South West - Dalby) and Whiskey Romeo (South West - Roma) are the old Delta Alpha (Dalby) and Romeo Oscar (Roma) areas.

It will be interesting to see if there are any Whiskey Charlie (WC) callsigns.

What do you believe Whisky Charlie may be? I'll be listening tonight after I finish work at 10pm to try and ascertain some more specific callsigns/locations

WD is South West District - Dalby/South Burnett Area.
See the third post above for a more detailed explanation.

~~~~~~~~~
WK203: Warwick - now DW 4xx
WK256: Goondiwindi - is now probably DW 421
WK501: Warwick
WK504: Kingaroy
WK (Whiskey Kilo) no longer exists. It was replaced by DW.
DW is Darling Downs District, Warwick Patrol Group.
WK504 is not, and never was Kingaroy, as Kingaroy comes under Dalby/South Burnett.
~~~~~~~~~
RO201: Roma
RO271: St George
RO295: St George

RO (ROma Area) callsigns no longer exist. They were replaced by WR callsigns.
WR is South West District - Roma Area.

~~~~~~~~~
WC335: Toowoomba - WC335 is a Charleville area callsign.
RD931: Toowoomba - is a Road Policing Command unit operating in the Darling Downs District.
As mentioned above, RO, and thus RO295 no longer exists.
Dirranbandi is now WR460 (South West District - Roma Patrol Group - Unit 460).
My point was more that it wasn’t St George as per the earlier post I replied to
Digitally encrypted in the south east, but not the rest of the state, yet. Appears that it could be a while before encryptation extends elsewhere.
