Flood response

Post by qld_fire »

Hey has anyone got any news on what rescourses are being sent to the flood areas?
I recieved a page asking for availiblity but i have heard nothing since.

The ADF are so far providing one herc, 3 blackhawks and 7 full fuel bladders and support equipment such as forklift etc, unsure where it was going im guessing rocky.

it seems like nothing is happening till tuesday wen everyone gets off holidays.

We spent Saturday and Sunday doing evacuations and a couple of other rural crews were filling sandbags to get the airport control tower ready for if the water goes over the predicted 9.4M. Today its slowed down a lot. It looks like it will be very quiet until the water starts to go down. That it unless another idiot decides to go for a swim.

I'm no expert but i reckon they will use most man power for the recovery phase and im hoping they will spread crews far and wide to the smaller communities.
I really hope they catch any looters and serve them with maximum penalties.
Stay Safe.

we are getting ready for a big clean up once the water goes down. There was a person who was picked up by the water police last night with a boat full of electrical goods. I hope they cop the full extent of the law even though the penalty is likely to be nothing but a wrap around the knuckles.

Heres something out of the ordinary, Surf Life Saving Qld have sent IRB's (Inshore Rescue Boats) to Brisbane to assist in access to flooded areas. I spent all day Thursday escorting and assisting Coolum SLSQ do welfare checks on stranded residents in Toowong, Chelmer and St Lucia. They are using SLSQ radios on either Ch 01 (484.950) or Ch 02 (485.000). These are both simplex channels normally used for local chit chat on the beach. The radios they are using are Icom F60V 5 watt handhelds (pieces of crap really). I'm not sure how long they are hanging around but they might be worth listening to if you are near them!
