It may just be the WS1095/WS1098 EZ-scan software that has the omission,
after seeing screenshots of the TRX-1/TRX-2 has different version numbering as well
was thinking they used the same software across the range.
Ive sent them a bug report about the issue.

Hello all,

New to scanning but am looking at a TRX-1 and just want to confirm that the Australian bandplan works as I have been talking to one of the 'experts' at ZipScanners and he states that there is no Australian Bandplan that he knows of just US/Canada.

Presuming its easy to flash the Firmware if required.

Anybody have any issues with the TRX-1 recently and the Bandplan for Australia?

Cheers Hawkeye

It does have an Australian band plan.

Depending on how "new" you are to scanning I would not be looking at the TRX series just yet. They can be problematic to program if you no experience. Try a Uniden UBCD325P2 or one of the earlier Whistlers before going for the top self stuff.

As lolbananalol2 mentioned, the Whistler TRX-1 and TRX-2 both have the option to select Australia band plan.
Other band plan selections are USA, UK and Canada.

To get hands on before you purchase, download the programming software from the Whistler website and have a go.
It will take a while getting to know how it works, same for the Uniden Sentinel program.

Just remember, Excel is your friend with programming the Whistler or Uniden scanners, as they both incorporate copy and paste for the most part of programming.

When conducting a search from 25-1300, here are the pre-set frequency ranges, modes and step sizes:

Thank you for that. Will download the software and have a play with it to see what it does. Thinking it might be a little easier as I haven’t learned another system yet so will just learn from scratch (hopeful thinking I know but hey I’m still buzzing on Easter Eggs so anything is possible) ;-)

So the Whistler models still have a large chunk of 800MHz missing?

Only an issue for Taswegians?

No ProVoice for Tassie also...

The Telcos with have all the 800 Mhz within the next two years or so.

Hello again.....sorry another Newbie question (actually 2):

1) With the TRX-1 (I have ordered one and its on its way (apparently)) I presume the antenna that comes with it is good but not the best (usual for these types of devices); is there a better antenna available (I think its a BNC connection) that is still portable (ie a better quality one with better reception and sensitivity)?

2) Can someone give me the readers digest version of the scanning frequencies that these devices can cover and why there are gaps. Is it that the scanner can't receive them or they are specifically left out for interference or legislative reasons? Noting the 800MHz statement earlier and wondering if they can physically do it but are deliberately stopped from doing it? I wonder this for the reason of going overseas and using the scanner in these frequency ranges.

Thanks in advance for the help. Still learning :D

Re 2) and frequency ranges missing in the 800MHz range. Have a read here:

https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Cell_blocked

Some manufacturers unblock these ranges for their export models, depending on the market. Example: the Uniden BCD436HP & BCD536HP (U.S. models) have the range blocked, but I understand that the UBCD436PT & UBCD536PT(Aussie models) now have it unblocked.

The blocked scanners can't receive anything within these ranges. The unblocking isn't usually something an owner can do, it usually requires a firmware release by the manufacturer, and they won't do that unless they have a formal export model arrangement to particular markets. Also, if you buy a model intended for the U.S. market e.g. Uniden BCD436HP & BCD536HP, its unlikely a firmware update unblocking the range will ever be available, and one for an export model usually won't work with a U.S. model.

Edit: Oh, and the other missing ranges are usually because (in the intended market country at least) they are used for other than two-way radiocommunications and therefore not likely to be of interest to scanning e.g. TV & FM radio broadcasting, radionavigation services etc.

Try the Watson W-801. I’ve read it’s a good antenna. Also there is a Facebook group for the TRX-1 as well as the TRX-2.

Purchased the TRX-1 from ZipScanners. Expediated post. I am lazy and was wondering if anyone had a saved configuration file for south east qld. E.g Brisbane area they are willing to share?

That's great, I sure you will be happy with your TRX-1.

While you wait for it to arrive make the most of the time and log on to the Whistler Group website and download the current version of EZscan. You will have to do this anyway.

If you do this you will be able to explore the software and have a play around with the settings and programming.
This will be of help for when your TRX-1 arrives.

Cheers X-Firey. I have copied and pasted some stuff from radioreference. I did not realise that I have to setup DMR and other trunk modes via the trunking tab. Not sure if I have it right. Time will tell when I get my scanner by the end of this week hopefully.

Let us know how you go or if you need advice on setting up trunking.

It's a great little workhorse, far more sensitive on UHF band than Uniden 436/536/3600 models.

FYI:

I stuffed up originally when I copied and pasted into the software, where it kept deleting the top row.
So if I imported the 80 UHF CB channels and had channel 1 as the top row, it only imported from channel 2.

There is a trick, and all comes down when copy & pasting, you MUST copy the row above the first channel from excel.
The first row must have specific headings that will depend on what you're importing (Channels, TGID, RID... etc)
Most headings will be the same though.

I'll see if I can show some demos.
