Help ID antenna please.
Hi folks, can you please help me ID this particular antenna?
I seen it on a victoria police patrol car and cant figure what it is for, i don't think its for 477uhf or 27cb, any ideas regarding Its use and the model / manufacturer?
It had a very long steel flexible whip, maybe 2m in height.
Please review the picture
thankyou

Re: Help ID antenna please.
Gday Mate,
My guess would be VHF? Not familiar with VIC but if it is like NSW some regional areas still have VHF channels.
Highway cars etc that travel around regions normally have both UHF/VHF for this reason.
Cheers,
NF.

Re: Help ID antenna please.
Victoria Police in Rural areas use VHF High Band (156-174 MHz), and if that antenna is about 2 metres long, I doubt it is for that Band.

Where was it seen?
Could it have been for a cross-border link to NSW?
Just thinking with my keyboard, here.

Hey there
brianWE & Comint
I seen it at Wodonga. What would that type of antenna be called?
Albury highway patrol car also has it, do anyone know what band it would be for 2m whip ?
What is the NSW police rural VHF band?
Ive attached a new pic showing long whip.
Cheers for your input chaps.

Re: Help ID antenna please.
Could be VHF low, around 78mhz, not sure if they still use this band down that way, but NSW cops still have it working in other parts of the state.

Re: Help ID antenna please.
Although NSW is slowly going digital, most Highway Patrol cars still have the 78MHz radios. I'm pretty sure that long whip is a NSW Police VHF band antenna.
