Confused guy with question :?: :?:
Hi, where i work the fitters and electricans and foremen all use Motorola GP 328 Plus 4 channel radios, in my section where I operate numerous pieces of machinery I also use one for contact incase of breakdowns, the serial number on the radio I use is "AHZ388DC9AA2" (well pretty sure it's that as I only had a quick look , had to take off the battery pack to see it), now just for fun I have purchased a WOUXUN KG-UVD1P radio on e-bay, the question I have is ... I believe the work radios are UHF, now the one I bought has a zillion channels in both UHF and VHF, would anyone know what frequencies the work radios use so I can just zero in on those, cause I live close to work and just wanted to be nosey and hear what's going wrong , and not try and scan the whole spectum ??, and can this radio I got, get those frequencies?, it says it can recieve these frequencies :-
V:136-174MHz
U: 420-520MHz
Thanks in advance for any help, much appreciated, cheers

Hi there welcome to the forums
You would need to find which frequency your work is using you can do this by searching your company name into the ACMA search http://web.acma.gov.au/pls/radcom/regis ... .main_page alternatively to that you can use the postcode search function.

Re: Confused guy with question :?: :?:
Took a while to figure out the search settings, think I have it :-
Frequencies
Assigned Carrier 484.8250000 MHz
Lower 484.8187500 MHz
Upper 484.8312500 MHz
so I guess the one I bought will cover those frequencies, just one last question, if you don't mind ... what sort of frequency step would you recommend ?, the wouxun has 5/6.25/10/12.5/25KHz/50KHz/100KHz, thanks for the info, much appreciated, cheers.

Gday Ozbloke
484.8250 is the receive channel for the two ways as for the step personally 12.5 is a good step as every service that i know of use 12.5KHz spacing

Re: Confused guy with question :?: :?:
Well i'm still a tad confused, thought this was a fun thing to do, keep the old grey brain cells working, turns out to be a bit more complicated, why ain't things easy these days, did another search and found more frequencies and licences for where i work (JBS Swift Dinmore meatworks), tried the couple I had above and not a peep out of the scanner, will try the step change and give it another go, one of the foremen at work says that the Motorola 2 ways are UHF not VHF , so I think i'm looking in the wrong frequency range, dang give me something easy for goodness sake , oh well there's always the weekend to play around in between doing all the other stuff I have to do, wish me luck, cheers and thanks, i'll let you know if I ever find the channels, Pete.

5 Watt Max output
464.2750
463.1250
463.9750
487.6000
469.5250 - Simplex
450.4250 - Simplex
450.0250 - Simplex
484.8250 - Simplex
they seem to be Low output so you still need to be close to the site to be able to listen to them.
there is also this condition on the licence - This licence limits the operation of the service to within the premises at the location specified on the licence. Use of the service outside these boundaries is not permitted.
however that being said you should still be able to listen to them if you had a scanner with an outdoor antenna

Re: Confused guy with question :?: :?:
Ok I snuck a look at the "repeater" (i think that's what you call it), inside the box it's in, there was written :-
TX 464.275
RX 454.775
BOM 79.9hz
Now I guess the tx is for transmit and the rx is receive ?? I put the freq step to 12.5, maybe i'd better narrow it a bit and play around ??
I was playing with the radio and found "our" channel 3 on 464.268, now I just have to find channel 1, 2 and 4 , cheers Pete.

The accepted Step in that segment of the Band is 25 kHz.I put the freq step to 12.5, maybe i'd better narrow it a bit and play around ??

If you use narrower Steps, you will get misleading results, as shown by your 464.268 (464.2750 - 0.00625 (6.25 kHz) rounded up to 3 decimals).

Re: Confused guy with question :?: :?:
Finally "found" the frequencies, had me totally stuffed there for a while, found channel 3 which was 464.275 so thinking the step was 25 i guessed that channel 2 was down one and 1 was down another, nope !! , looked at the print outs I did of all the licences and found channel 1 at 463.975 !! heck of a jump, and the did the math and figured out 2 must be 464.125 and channel 4 must be 464.425, not too sure yet as 2 and 4 aren't used too much, but i assume it's right (although we all know what assume means, it'll make an a## out of you and me), cheers all, now to listen in on all the troubles in the factory

Hi, ok I have the channels ... now after trying to understand the manual i'm lost, how the heck do you transmit on those frequencies, there is all sorts of offsets and settings that i don't understand, anyone have a very very simple guide or explaination on what settings I need to change, what should be what and how the heck can I get it to work, thanks in advance, cheers Pete.

Re: Confused guy with question :?: :?:
Are you licensed to TX on that
Do you have correct equipment to TX on t hat freq?
Ask the manager of JBS Swift Dinmore meatworks for permission to TX and I think you will find out one way or the other

Oz
i agree with OP on this one mate if you are not licenced or have permission from the Communications Manager to use your own equipment i wouldn't it is fine to listen to them but not wise to talk to them

Confused guy with question :?: :?:
The radio you purchased is sold as an amateur radio - for use in amateur radio. Wouxun is a good cheap H/T for use in ham radio.
Sure - you may have to freq - but are you sure that the Wouxun will be able to stay within the bandwidth as allocated on the ACMA conditions?
Sure - the radio may be able to tx/rx in a wide bandwidth (the joy of amateur radio) however I highly doubt that it is legal for you to use it on the freqs that you mentioned above.
Just because you have to freq for the local police and a radio that "can" transmit on the same band - does not make it legal to do so.
There is a huge difference between listening and transmitting.
If you TX with on a freq without permission or with incorrect equipment - there are huge fines...

oh ok, no worries, just mucking around, still it is still good enoough to listen in to all the stuff going on with break downs and weird comments, there sure are some silly people using the radios at work, never realized before , cheers Pete.
