What kind of VSWR are you getting with the antenna so close to the mast (UHF) and without a sufficient ground plane (marine)?

Would guess that the marine vhf antenna is a dipole as they go on f/glass boats, they work a treat, I use one for the R20, the antenna was broken so I slipped heat shrink over the break, no good for the boat but ok for the shed. If it's a 27Mhz some ground plane will help greatly.
