The UHF band is rather narrow for a dipole, the antenna would only be 35cm long at 1/2wave. And there are far better UHF designs available, depending on your location and coverage by repeaters, the best antenna may be a vertical or a beam/directional antenna.
As to the marine band you mention, do you mean 27Mhz marine, or the VHF band 156-162Mhz ?

A 477Mhz dipole antenna drawing, to make it for 156-165Mhz, only the length needs adjustment.

I made a dipole for the VHF marine band a few months ago.
Quite easy to build, and most of the parts were purchased at Bunnings.
Details for building this type of antenna (for VHF thru to UHF) are on another website.

I may need admin's approval before I post the link.
Thats a NICE looking job SSG, but you might find it performs better if your choke balun is 8 turns of co-ax instead of what looks like 5. Also, how does it perform in the horizontal plane ? I see a lot of vertical dipoles, but not many flattops on higher bands, roll it over sometime and let us know if signal degradation is noticeable, or if it becomes more directional.

It's actually 6 turns I used.
I haven't / won't get a chance to try laying the antenna horizontally as it's firmly fixed on a mast 5 metres in the air now.
Seems to work well. I cut it for 162MHz as it's used for receiving marine AIS data on 161.975 & 162.025MHz.
