Funny thing this airman as Queensland Rail have already been trialling this new technology for a little while now with 3 trains trialling it along side there current system.

I enjoy listening to coal trains as we have plenty of them up here. The number system they use is fascinating.

There just seems to be a lack of further information in the link, like channels, frequencies and mode of this allocation. 1800mHz is high band UHF but still accessible to most scanning radios today. I don't see anything in the article that indicates it will be analog, digital or digital encrypted.

Very few scanners go above the 800 Mhz Band. Maybe some AORs, and a few Icoms. I can't name a single Uniden, or GRE.

I don't see anything in the article that indicates it will be analog, digital or digital encrypted.

It is GSM-R, which is digital, just like GSM mobile phones. The -R signifies that it is a bastardised version for the Railways.
