Motorola FRS/GMRS Radios

Post by brianWE »

I came across this company when looking for something else
http://www.cuttingedgeknives.com.au/pro ... =1092&rID=

I believe they are in Brisbane.
There is very little information supplied but the Motorola radios they are selling look like US FRS/GMRS sets. Some of them use that description.

I emailed them for info and asked if the radios were legal to us in Oz.

Reply was:
"Hi They are only 2 way radios – nothing illegal about them – same with all radios only an issue if you misuse them "

Personally, I doubt that they are type approved for this country.

Have the rules changed, or, is the company being irresponsible/ignorant?

Unless they are type approved for use in Australia, then the importation, possession and sale of them is illegal.

Just what I thought.

But I'm beginning to think it might just be very sloppy advertising copy.
Maybe they are programmed to the UHF CB band.
Although several of the radios are listed as FRS/GMRS.
I think one radio is listed as having 8 repeater channels.

The ranges quoted are, mostly, optimistic...IMO.

They still have to be type approved to be sold.

Same here, I emailed them and they said the radios are no longer for sale.

Pretty sure they were, ever, stocked.
Just had a deal with a US outdoor company to request items when they got an order.
I believe they used the Yank online catalogue.
