QFRS & QAS - Multiple Passenger Train Derailment

QFRS , QAS had a mock simulation of mulitple passenger train derailment today
(Fri 26/03/10) at QRail Redbank.

Up to 14 Ambulances, with Qld Pollice Forensic Crash Unit also on site.
This exercise was 3mnths in the planning and was to give both QFRS & QAS the valuable experience of working side by side at a HUGE incident!

Over 500 photos taken and they will go on my website over the weekend!!

Kind of ironic seeing as there was a real train de-railment when a passenger train hit a landslide near Cairns...

Kuranda (near Cairns) – train derailment

A passenger train carrying more than 200 people derailed around 10.30am. Seven Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) crews and seven Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) crews are currently at the scene. Five people have been injured as a result of the derailment. A two-year-old boy has suffered a head injury, a 62-year-old woman has suffered a knee and shoulder injury, a 25-year-old man has suffered a laceration to the head and two other people have received minor head injuries. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening. Paramedics are currently treating patients at the scene before transporting them to Cairns Base Hospital.

Kuranda Scenic Railway train off the rails

THE iconic Kuranda Scenic Railway could be closed indefinitely in the wake of yesterday's derailment, with engineers to assess the route's safety following a landslide.

The incident happened just before the first tunnel on the popular tourist line, forcing the crew to detach locomotive one, which was "partially buried", and reverse the carriages back down the range using a second locomotive.

Five of the 224 passengers on board were taken from the train at a Queensland Rail infrastructure track and bridge depot at Redlynch and transferred to Cairns Base Hospital for medical treatment.

Once a year normally, they just had another large scale exercise. And she gets invited to them by senior members within QFRS.
