illegal transmission ?

Post by nirvana »

Heard on the rumour file on 3Aw this morning that someone allegedly hacked into the police radio frequencies in rural victoria on the weekend and sent false transmissions ( i assume pretending to be the police ) , sent them to non-existent jobs and clowned around on the transmissions.( not the bloke`s exact words, but that was the jist of it ).

Anyone hear that rumour ? I tried to find it on the 3Aw website ,but can`t locate their discussion.

Just a rumour and may not be true.

Not unheard of and is one of the reasons the police move to encrypted radio systems.

I heard that rumour on the 'Rumour File' also.
I hate that phrase 'hacked into' but yes, it has happened before in the North East of the state.

Keep listening as you may hear 'ACMA 200' active again...

As a basic user of a scanner ,can you please tell me what ACMA 200 is , please X-Firey ?

Is it something to do with licencing people to use scanners ?

Thanks.

Hi Nirvana,
ACMA stands for Australian Communications and Media Authority.

They are responsible for managing the radio spectrum, radio licencing, telecommunications and the media.
They are the agency that would investigate offences like the one mentioned.

When this happened last time a unit calling itself 'ACMA 200' was heard operating on the police channels in the N/E in an attempt to locate the offender. This would have been an ACMA inspector and vehicle with various radio equipment on board.

It has nothing to do with scanner hobbyists.

Yeah I definitely heard a few brief transmissions here in Latrobe Valley (Q1) that were suspicious!
So frustrating!

Recoding of one of the ACMA callsigns using the VicPol VHF Voting Network on this page.
