I heard the following last night:
USB Utilities:
NDI 5643, then later SFO Radio
8867 similar traffic AKL
Traffic were routines for trans Pacific flights in progress. Aircraft were only S2 at best, so I am going to look at getting a wire.
This was in the house on just the extended telescopic from my new Tecsun PL-660 which is performing beyond my expectations.
Lots of SW broadcast stations and a ham in Melbourne chatting with someone in Germany. LSB
I have ordered the WRTV handbook for a reference.
Late nights ahead!

Re: HF Radio Traffic
Hi Airman, just curious where you bought the PL-660 from?
I'm keen on getting one, too.

There's a wait of about 15 days from ordering. The packaging is excellent. Came with 4 X AA, Power plug with adapter and a reel in long wire. There's a mini DVD that I couldn't work on my iMac, but you can download the 34 page manual from Google. Programming is easy and you have 2000 presets!
It has LW, MW, SW, vhf AIR and SSB.

Re: HF Radio Traffic
Thanks
I see on ebay there is also a seller in NSW, a bit more expensive ($27) but it would arrive here faster
All the reviews I've read are very positive!

Re: HF Radio Traffic
Hi. I have picked up lots of HF using an outdoor long wire antenna and my Tecsun S2000 in SE QLD. Here is a spreadsheet from my database showing received stations. The furthest away Aircraft frequency I have picked up is the New York aviation weather on 6604 kHz USB. Singapore 8942, Tokyo and Manila 8903 come in very strong in the evenings. After midnight you can hear India on 8879

Re: HF Radio Traffic
Hi. The wire is about 20 metres and runs North South. The direction and length doesnt matter too much. Height is important. I run mine from the top of my roof to a tree in the back corner of the yard. However, not everyone has that much space. Do a Google search on longwire antennas and you will find a lot of different designs.
