iPhone App for ATC

Post by AIRMAN »

My location is OK for Toowoomba Airport traffic and a few others including Brisbane. I have been unable to receive HF air traffic as I haven't the equipment (SSB receiver and longwire antenna)

I recently discovered an app on my iphone 4 called ATC. I was amazed at the amount of listening that is available. Not only just here and Brisbane, but major airports all over Australia, Asia, USA, Europe in both VHF and HF. How the heck do they do this I don't know, but it is very exciting listening. I wonder if it is 'live' or there is a delay.

I would need a very expensive HF receiver and antenna to be able to get even a fraction of what I can get on this App that costs just $2.99. The Favorites listed in the center photo represent my selection and can be edited at anytime.

Those kind of apps pay to use the streams from Radio Reference etc. Still a good buy for $2.99 though I know with my stream when I listen to it through a computer or through a 3rd party app there is about a 2-3 minute delay.

Hi Shane,

2 to 3 minute delay isn't a problem with me! When you say you pay for streams from RR, is that a one off or a user pay system?

My ISP plan is unlimited download, so the $2.99 is a one off payment.

Not quite sure how they work it, you might find the developers might just need a premium subscription to radio reference in order to re-broadcast the stream through their app.

Shane I had a listen this afternoon and there only seems to be around 40 seconds delay.

Maybe it depends on how many are listening to it ? Or what app you use
