Military aircraft - 260.000 am
Have just checked the recording log on Proscan for my UBC780XLT scanner, and have found some interesting audio recorded on freq 260.000 am. I've got this listed as Evans Head Bombing Range in NSW. I'm in Tweed Heads (southern end of Gold Coast) and I'm picking up RAAF aircraft identing as "Hawk" and advising they are a couple of nautical miles from the range. This is another freq I've had programmed into my scanner for years but never heard anything on it! One aircraft advised they were an F111 and talking about ordinance and night runs so I'm assuming it's come from Amberley. Have to hurry up and get my discone re-connected to my UHF yagi. Sounds like Milair is alive on the coast!!!
Cheers

You record the radio traffic??? How???
And whats the AM bit.
I know its amplitude modulation but do you need a special scanner to listen to am???

Proscan is a pc program to connect to a scanner, http://www.proscan.org/
You listen to aircraft comms don't you? They are in AM, I think nearly every scanner on the market has AM. You may find that AM isn't the default setting for that part of radio spectrum that's all.Stretch wrote: And whats the AM bit.

Good to see Evans Head Range is still alive! We used to sneak in off the beach when we were young fellas and try and carry out large inert shells, but they were too heavy (hopefully inert!).
Funnily enough, I was listening to 11175khz USB last night and I heard an aircraft talking to "Anderson" (USAF Anderson Air Force Base Guam) about times and weather for RAAF Williamtown. I think the aircraft callsign was "Sword 034". I wonder if this was something to do with the exercise?? I might have to keep an ear out on the ADF HF net and see what else I can hear!
Cheers
