HT Antennas: UHF

Post by brianWE »

I recently put my IC40s back in operation.
Needed a new battery.

Got it home and found the original antenna was disintegrating....crumbling away.
No worries, I still had an old BNC half wave antenna and, luckily, an adapter to fit the later system.
But the setup is a little ungainly for portable use.
Have a standard item on order.

Anyway...was wondering: can I get accessory antennas for the later, screw-on system (SMA?) ?
On my old BNC radios I used to like to use a compact one eighth wave stubby.
Using it with the BNC/SMA adapter makes the setup less compact than I like.
Would be nice if I could get a new one that fits.

Asking here because my local dealer is closed for the hols.

Managed to get a couple of antennas from my local dealer.
A stubby...I guess it is one eighth wave...and a standard one for the IC41.

The stubby is fine. The other is rubbish.
The synthetic casing is poorly shaped and has a permanent curve to it. A cosmetic thing, but disappointing.
The connector part is off-centre and the tip of the antenna describes a circle of around 3 cm as I screw it onto the set.. Is hard to line up to start, too.
Weird.
Not what I would have expected from Icom.

I will go back when next in town.
