New channel 4 repeater- Caloundra?

Post by Scannersplitterguy »

I was flicking through the UHF cb channels tonight and I can access a repeater I didn't know existed.
It's on channel 4 (476.500) and every 10 minutes it automatically identifies itself with a recorded female voice as DHC04 Caloundra. (I could be wrong on the first two letters of the call sign).
Anyone know much about this?

Are you able to hear/access the repeater from your location, Phil?
The signal strength is very low where I am (Buderim).

VHT04 was/is at Noosa. According to this, it is off the air:
http://www.tropinet.com/cgi-bin/repeaters.cgi?QLD

Can anyone else here access the Caloundra repeater? It must be new as no one is using it yet (just wait until the brain-dead zombies on ch 6 find it :-()

That Site shows it located at the same place as shown in the ACMA Database.

The Site also states that it was under repair as at July 2011, so perhaps it has now been repaired, and is back on Air.

The Cooroy/Noosa Site is about 32 km from Buderim.

The channel 4 was on Black Mountain north of Cooroy, it was working fine but the TX antenna had fallen/broken and it had a range of about 1klm but it RXed fine, It was sold about 12 months ago(maybe more). I have been told it is on Buderim but it doesn't have a good range for up there

Update

The channel 4 repeater is on the Caloundra Lighthouse. It's been operating in full capacity for a couple of months now.
Fortunately, the brain-dead button-pushers haven't found it yet.

thats strange, its not licensed for that location, even tonight its still only authorised for Cooroy location, acma might not give a toss about users, but repeater operators got lot more to lose, incl fines :)

The plot thickens....the repeater has been off the air for several days. Seems to be having technical problems when it is on, too.

On Fri night, travelling Bribie rd I was listening to a c4, no idea which one, was very weak, was making noises, sounded almost like a crook/out-of-tune diplexer.

So is the CH4 repeater at Caloundra the repeater that was at Cooroy and they moved it? or has the ACMA allowed for two on the same channel 40km apart.. :/
Currently have: Simoco SRM9000 (TU), Yaesu FT65, GME XRS370, GME TX6155 x 2, Icom IC400 Pro x 2, Icom IC41 Pro x 3
